Gratitude is such an old (and simple) concept, but I can honestly say it’s one of the things that has made the biggest difference in my life in terms of happiness. It can totally help you to see the beauty in your life, and find happiness when you’re feeling unhappy.
It can also help you develop other positive habits and end negative ones; it can help you be more mindful, stop comparing yourself to others, stop taking people/things for granted, and so much more.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day things that may upset or frustrate you, all of the things that you want but don’t have, all of the people who irritate you, all of the things you need to get done, the list goes on and on.
But when you stop for a second and look around, you may be surprised at what you see.
So many of us fail to realize all that we have. Sometimes the things we take for granted most – like having food on the table or having legs to walk with – are the only things that someone else is praying for.
I know that might sound dramatic, but it’s true.
So today I really wanted to talk about why gratitude is such an amazing thing and how I practice it daily (plus I have a printable for you)!
How gratitude can improve your life
- You’ll start to enjoy life more. When you focus on what you have and what you’re thankful for, you’ll start needing less stuff and enjoying life more.
- You’ll love yourself more. When you start feeling grateful for all that you have and all that you are, you’ll begin to accept yourself for who you are.
- It will improve your relationships. When you start taking the people in your life for granted less and become more thankful for them, your judgments and expectations will fall away and you’ll appreciate them more.
- You’ll become more mindful. Practicing gratitude allows you to take the time to live in the moment. It gives you a brief daily pause to think about the wonderful things in life.
- It will reduce your stress. When you shift the focus from your problems to what’s working for you and making you happy, your stress will decrease.
- You’ll be happier in general. Creating an attitude of gratitude will decrease your feelings of want and increase the positivity in life. In short, you’ll be a happier, more optimistic person in general.
How I practice daily gratitude
A while back, I created a gratitude list printable for my freebie library. I also made printable gratitude slips but I hadn’t added them to the library because I’ve been meaning to write this post for A WHILE now. 😅
Every night before I go to sleep, I write down something that I’m grateful for that day and add it to my gratitude jar.
My life and my mindset have both honestly changed so much since I started doing this so I had to tell you all about it! It’s such a simple act but it can really put you in such a positive mindset.
And when you’re having a bad day or going through a rough patch in life, reading through these slips of paper is a great way to cheer yourself up!
You can sign up for my newsletter to get access to this printable and lots of others in the freebie library. Just enter your name and email below, then check your email for a link to the library!
If you want to share photos of your own gratitude jar on Instagram, use the hashtag #mygratitudejar so I can check ’em out! (:
