Do you ever wonder why you’re grumpy, when it seems like you’re doing everything you’re supposed to do?
You’re leading a fairly healthy lifestyle; exercising, eating mostly right, getting enough sleep, and drinking enough water. That’s supposed to make you feel good, right?
You may be wondering what you’re missing, and why you’re still in a bad mood.
Bad moods affect us in so many ways. They change the way we think, the way we see things.
Sometimes all we can focus on is just how grumpy we are, and we stop seeing all of the joy around us. We don’t feel like doing anything. We just feel stressed out.
In an effort to maybe help some of you out, I’ve made another list. (:
Here are 5 things that you may not think about, but could be ruining your mood!
1. MULTITASKING
Now this is a huge thing that I, personally, need to work on. Do you try to talk on the phone while doing housework? Answer emails while you’re working out. Yeah, me too. You think you’re just being super-efficient, right? Wrong.
Multitasking can help you get stuff done quicker, but it can also make your brain feel so rattled that it can’t function normally. I recently read a book called The Miracle of Mindfulness by renowned Zen expert Thich Nhat Hanh (amazing book, by the way!) and he teaches this idea. He believes that people should do one thing at a time and be deliberate with their actions, so they don’t overwhelm their minds. So next time you’re at work feeling super irritated for seemingly no reason, it could be multitasking that’s ruining your mood!
2. ‘BLUE LIGHT’
The light that comes from your phone, TV, computer, and other electronic devices is very harmful to your sleep. Among many other things, it disrupts your natural circadian rhythms. It’s also found to cause symptoms of depression and slows down the release of melatonin – which can lead to mood disorders.
Instead of watching TV or messing around on your phone while you’re laying in bed at night, you could turn off all of your electronics and maybe try to read instead. Or you could invest in some blue light-blocking glasses like these!
3. NEGATIVE PEOPLE
Everyone complains sometimes but if you’re constantly hanging around someone who seems to do nothing but complain, their negativity could rub off on you and end up leaving you in a bad mood. Sometimes you need to think of your own emotional well-being and re-evaluate relationships like this. If you don’t think you should cut off these friendships, maybe you should at least take a step back from them once in a while in order to help your mood.

4. CIGARETTES
Obviously, smoking is bad for us, and you all probably know that. But what you might not know is that smoking cigarettes doesn’t only affect your physical health, it harms your mental health as well. If you’re a smoker, you have an increased risk of developing depression. Here is more information about the link between cigarette smoking and depression.
5. DISORGANIZATION
Being in a room full of clutter can actually make your brain feel cluttered – which can lead to a bad mood. Crazy, right? It’s been said that the state of your house is actually a reflection of your mind. If your room is clean and clutter-free then it’s safe to say your mind is probably clear and calm. Clutter is also shown to cause a high amount of cortisol, a stress hormone, in female homeowners. Here is an interesting article about this topic.

i think disorganizing is getting to me
I’m not sure I agree with the cigarettes, but I know that negative people can really have an impact on your mood.
I have clutter in my bedroom and know it drives me crazy. I need to clean it up. Maybe next time I have a day off I’ll focus on organizing and cleaning.
I second disorganization! It really throws me off my game. I like to make sure that my desk is set up every day when I’m done work, so that when I sit down to it in the morning, I can get right to work!
Multi-tasking and disorganization are huge for me. I can’t stand feeling overwhelmed by to do lists and clutter. It drives me bonkers and makes me very angry.
These make a lot of sense as underlying factors to a bad mood!
Great post! Whew so many things can get me in a bad mood, especially negative people. I have learned to refocus myself and my surroundings to avoid these moods.
I am agree with you! These are the main things that influence negatively our mood. I will start with be more organize in order to reduce multitasking and the blue light hours!
The multitasking thing makes sense. I think it contributes to a feeling of being disorganized. When I talk on the phone or have the TV on while I do other stuff, I’m too distracted to be productive.
This is a really great and very informative post, I will start to be more organized and be more focused to stay productive
